|MY FAV INTERIOR DESIGNERS||L.I. Interior Design - Jack of all Trades|
|5 July 2013|
Established in 2006, L.I. Interior Design Sdn Bhd is created with the intention of providing quality design ideas in order to meet their client’s utmost satisfaction. They firmly believe in design originality and that interior design plays an important part in life itself.
We had a chat with designer Jack Tan, who helped contribute to their lastest MFID win, the Johson Woo Bungalow.
WAS THERE ANY PART OF THE PROJECT WHICH YOU FOUND CHALLENGING?
JT: Concept-wise, the challenge was to choose the correct concept to represent the client’s character and lifestyle. In terms of design, we had to create not only a nice design; it also has to be practical.
WHERE DO YOU GET INSPIRATION FROM?
JT: I read magazines from different industries such as fashion, car, cosmetic, fine art and more but I also draw inspiration from emotions through watching movies, reading novels, travelling and keeping an open mind.
HOW DOES YOUR HOUSE LOOK LIKE?
JT: A laboratory – I always like to mix and match different concepts in my house, and that can look a bit messy but it is just like laboratory for me to conduct different experiments with spaces.
I always believe design concepts come from experimenting with different design elements.
WHAT MAKES A HOUSE A HOME?
JT: It needs to have the owner’s personal character or ‘shadow’. It also has to make you feel like going home. You will feel connection between the house and you.
WHAT ARE SOME WORDS WHICH YOU LIVE BY?
JT: Give. If you believe in giving first, you will get some things back either directly or indirectly, and this is what we practice in our projects. For example, we try to use minimum cost to create maximum impact to create added value for our customers and in return, our customer will recommend our company to others.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE INTERIOR DESIGN?
JT: It is challenging work, but it also brings maximum satisfaction. That aside, I’ve wanted to be an Interior Designer since I was a child because I really loved decorating, especially the seasonal decorating.
